- As part of an international research project, FAIR GmbH is planning to set up a new accelerator complex "FAIR" (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) with a connection to the existing GSI accelerator facility. The accelerator complex connects directly to the existing research facilitydirection. In the period from 2011 to 2026, around 24 buildings and tunnel sections with the associated technical equipment are to be erected on an area of around 20 hectares.
The heart of the facility is an accelerator ring with a circumference of around 1,100 m, which is based around 18 m below ground. Overall saround 1,100,000 m³ of earth and around 565,000 m³ of concrete are to be processed.
GFA = approx. 150,000 m2.
BRI = approx. 1,200,000 m³.
